Volunteering with AMREF Flying Doctors is a great way to contribute to charity and gain valuable out-of-hospital experience. Physicians with experience in intensive care, emergency medicine, and anesthesiology are welcome to take up a minimum of 4 weeks as first on-call flight doctor. Volunteers are also expected to provide a minimum of two training sessions/brief lectures or a CME session with the Flying Doctors team on any topic of their choice. Core medical skills required include intubation and ventilation, advanced life support, minor surgical procedures e.g. chest drain insertion, spinal immobilization, limb splinting, pain management, and others.
